    RULES OF GRIFBALL

Grifball is a simple game. Two teams of four players square off in an arena in which each team has a goal. The object is to take the ball in the middle of court and put it in the other team's goal.

    1. Scoring a goal earns one point and ends the round.
    2. Each match consists of at least five rounds. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins.
    3. Each player is equipped with only a gravity hammer and an energy sword. There are no grenades. All weapons have unlimited ammo.
    4. The base Halo 3 gametype is Assault (neutral bomb). Damage is set to 200% with player health set to 10%. One direct hit will kill a player.
    5. Dead players respawn in three seconds at their own goal.
    6. The ball carrier has a 2x Overshield, 150% speed, 150% damage resist, and turns orange for some reason. Any player may become the ball carrier by picking up the ball.
    7. Friendly players can hurt each other. Learn to use your radar.
    8. Spawn camping is both legal and a totally awesome strategy.
    9. In the highly unlikely event that a player finds themselves outside of the arena (beyond the wall), they must find a teleporter. It will drop the player into the middle of the arena. It is the player's duty to return to play within 15 seconds (judged by time on Save Film) or they forfeit the entire match. If they leave the ball beyond the wall, it will reset within 30 seconds. Play is not suspended while the ball or ball carrier is out of bounds.

    GRIFBALL SPRING 2008 LEAGUE RULES

    OVERALL

    1. Each team has a roster of up to eight players, including one Team Captain. Each match, the Captain will choose four players from the roster to play in the game. Captains may add or remove players from the Team roster until they have played in a match for that team. Then they are on that team permanently until the end of the season. Playes may only appear on the roster of one team.
    1. Each match will consist of one 4v4 nine-round game to nine total points. The team with at least five points at the end of the game wins the match. Games must be completed to nine total points, even if one team scores five points before the last round of the game.
    1. The GBSL08 has room for 126 teams separated into twenty-one divisions of 6 teams. Division 21 is the (UK/Europe) division. The League may be reduced or expanded based on demand.
    1. The regular season will be played from Monday March 24th to Sunday April 27th. Over the five weeks, teams will play two games per week, for ten games total. Each team will play the other teams in their division twice.
    1. At the end of the Regular Season, the top team (as determined by number of Wins) in each division will advance to a single elimination 32-team playoff. Each division leader will be seeded in the tournament based on the same rankings.
    1. The remaining play-off slots will be filled by wild card teams who have the best Wins record across the entire League, but did not win their division.
    1. In the event of a tie when determining Division leader, playoff seeding or wildcard berths, the following tie breakers will be used in order:
      • Head to head regular season record (if any)
      • Avg Team Goals Scored Per Game
      • Avg Team Batting Average Per Game
      • A one game playoff scheduled by the League (except for seeding)
      • Coin toss (for playoff seeding)
    1. Have fun! This is the first Grifball League, so there are bound to be some scenarios we did not expect. The League Admins will do their best to resolve any disputes and they may even have to violate some of the stated rules to do so. This is just for recreational purposes and bragging rights, so let's try to keep the competition friendly.

    SCHEDULING

    1. Each team will play every team other team in their Division twice.
    1. This season, teams will be selecting Divisions based on when they can play. Once in a Division, a team is expected to play in all their games at that time. You can find the list of Divisions and times here.
    1. Each team will play two games on their assigned game night. Odd numbered games will be played first. At the conclusion of the first game of the evening, Captains will contact their second opponent's Captain (who should already be online) to play their second game.
    1. Team Captains may contact each other via the Grifball.com email tool or via Xbox Live to co-ordinate.
      • Week 1 (March 24th - March 30th : Matches 1 & 2
      • Week 2 (March 31st - April 6th): Matches 3 & 4
      • Week 3 (April 7th - April 13th): Matches 5 & 6
      • Week 4 (April 14th - April 20th): Matches 7 & 8
      • Week 5 (April 21st - April 27th): Matches 9 & 10
    1. There is a tool on each grifball.com Player profile that allows you to contact the player via e-mail, but does not reveal the Player's e-mail address to you. Be sure to check the "Allow Contact via E-mail" box in your profile settings.

    GAMEPLAY

    1. Before each match, TC's should download the latest version of the Game Variant and Map Variant from the front page of grifball.com.
    1. Each game, the team which comes first alphabetically will be the Party Leader team. The Party Leader TC will make the match at least five minutes before game time, set the party to invite only and make the Max Party size 8. He or she will then invite the opponent TC. After Match 5, Teams that come second alphabetically will play host.
    1. Each TC is then responsible to invite all their players (up to four total per team).
    1. If all players have not joined the lobby by 10 minutes after game time, the game begins. A team may play one-player short. The opposing team has no obligation to reduce their team roster to match. In other words, a 4 v 3 is acceptable. Players may not join the game late.
    1. If a team does not have three players in the lobby by ten minutes after match time, they forfeit the match.
    1. If a team does not respond to scheduling for a game or does not play their match, they forfeit the match. During a forfeit the losing team is credited with a loss. The winning team receives a win. (UPDATED on 01.16.2008)
    1. A team which forfeits two games in the Regular Season will be removed from the current and future Grifball Leagues.

    REPORTING

    1. The TC of the winning team reports the results of the match. The losing TC should not attempt to report the game unless directed to do so by the League.
    1. The winning TC will visit the Team Schedule page on grifball.com and click "Report Game".
    1. The reporting tool will require them to provide a bungie.net URL for the record of the game and to specify which team played Blue Team and which played Red Team.
    1. After the game, both TC's must save a copy of the Save Film and can post it in their bugnie.net File Share.
    1. The League may add a similar tool for reporting highlights. This will be announced at a later time.

    DISPUTES

    1. Any disputes should be sent to grifball@roosterteeth.com with a link to a file share that contains footage of the disputed game.
    1. The League admins (or a selection of TC's) will make a final ruling on the match. They may let the results of the game stand, declare the game invalid, or assign a forfeit to one of the teams.
    1. Team Captains can choose to test the network prior to their match by hosting a one minute test game. There is an Odball Game Variant in the Grifball file share called "NETWORK TEST". This is the only method a team can use to test their connections. If someone begins a "GBSL08 Rules" game, then the match has officially begun. Any game listed on bungie.net played under the GBSL08 gametype is an official match and its results will count.
    1. Individual players who lag out can be re-invited by their team. Play is not suspended while a player lags out for whatever reason.
    1. If the game re-establishes its host (and gives an explicit message saying so) at any time after the start of the match, the game is immediately ruled invalid and must be replayed.
    1. For all other network issues, any disputes should be sent to the League following instructions in Rule 1 of Disputes.
    1. We will be tracking teams that have network issues. If a team has ongoing network issues, even those beyond their control, they may be removed from the League.
